Featured picture candidates Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for featured pictures are listed in the log pages and in the candidate archives. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, PDFs, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. AI-generated imagesEntirely or substantially AI-generated images are not eligible for featured picture status. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Adding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate name, quality, image description, categories and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Nominations are time-sensitive and for one-time use only. An automatic clock starts as soon as they are created. Do not create them in advance, save them for later or re-activate them. Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using
An 'Alternative' is created by adding a sub-section to the nomination page: ====Alternative==== VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 100 constructive, stable edits on Commons (excluding user and talk pages) can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions (“alternatives”) of the image as well as delist-and-replace nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Hint: Until summer 2025, the bot was also not able to process FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations as well as delist nominations; this has been fixed, users do not need to close such nominations anymore. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

Info Ghepan Lake (also known as Ghepang Ghat or Alyaas Lake), a glacial lake at about 4,100 metres (13,500 ft) altitude in the Himalayas of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Located in Lahaul, it can be reached via a roughly 15 km long moderate-to-difficult climb from Sissu (near the tourist resort town of Manali, with overnight camping in the meadows along the trail. The lake is over 250 acres (100 ha) in surface area, holds 35.08 million cubic meters of water and is currently one of the largest glacial lakes in the western Himalayas. It is continuously expanding and has grown over three-fold in size in the past four decades due to an accelerated rate of glacial melting.

Comment I made an improved version using a rotational blur technique and uploaded the new, sharper version. The thumbnail and the 3840 × 2840 pixel version correctly display the new version, but when I view the full-resolution version, it shows the old one. Oppose -- This flower was captured without sunlight as result the colors are not brigth, i.e. for an excellent (FP) picture this is missing from my point of view. 2015 Michael 2015 (talk) 15:33, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
- @2015 Michael 2015:
Comment Thank you for your comments on this photo. It is new to me that an excellent (FP) photo of a flower must be taken in sunlight. Most of my stacked macro photos of flowers (with an FP star) are deliberately photographed in the shade with even light. Otherwise, the final result of the stacking fails for me. I have brightened up this photo a bit; perhaps you will like it better now.--Famberhorst (talk) 04:40, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- How do you understand "from my point of view"? I never said something like "must be" (= is a rule). I wrote my perspective / opinion. Other users are writing "I miss the wow effect", it matches here too. Your picture is already selected as QI and that matches. From my perspective too much good (= not excellent) pictures gets selected as FP. You have still a good chance that other users disagree to my opinion, i.e. my voice will probably not change a promotion to FP. ~~~~ 2015 Michael 2015 (talk) 07:30, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

Support A very simple and accomplished photo of a common flower. Of course, photographing flowers (and insects, by the way) with direct sunlight is to be avoided, especially when they are white. Comment I really like this image and would be happy to support it. However, I find the noise quite noticeable, and the file also lacked an embedded sRGB profile. I therefore made a lightly processed version with some noise reduction and an embedded sRGB profile, which I am offering via SwissTransfer. If useful, it could either be used to update the file or, if the image is currently part of a competition, as a derivative. Just a suggestion. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 21:08, 21 August 2026 (UTC)

Comment - I agree with IamMM. I imagine the lower exposure needed to capture the detail on the chalk affected the colour, but it also feels... almost undersaturated? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 16:47, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
Comment I took a close look at the image and its EXIF data before supporting it. With ISO 64, f/13 and 1/80 s at 1:21 pm, the deep blue sky seems quite plausible to me given the very bright chalk formations. A polarizing filter or some adjustment of the blue tones in post-processing could also play a role. I had a similar experience with my California State Capitol photo, taken at 1/2000 s, f/5 and ISO 100 in bright daylight. I cannot see any obvious masking edges or other indication that the sky is artificial, so I see no reason to assume that it is. -- Radomianin (talk) 20:12, 21 August 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Probably taken with a polarizer, that’s fine, but this does not change the fact that the sky is too dark by a large margin, so it must be made brighter again in post-processing. A polarizer is just a useful filter, it does not exempt a photo from adjusting brightness if necessary. – Aristeas (talk) 19:41, 22 August 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Sky color(s) and sky exposure are for my point of view not excellent. 2015 Michael 2015 (talk) 15:37, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
Comment I understand and respect the concerns raised about the sky colour and exposure. Personally, I like the darker sky and the slightly surreal atmosphere it creates, but I also understand the concern about faithful representation. I prepared a restrained alternative with the sky slightly lifted, available via a SwissTransfer link. I would not overwrite the current file, as it is currently under jury evaluation for Wiki Loves Earth 2026. If useful, this version could serve as a basis for a derivative and a future FPC nomination. -- Radomianin (talk) 19:22, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
Comment With all respect to everyone who says that the sky looks unnatural: I hope you have all been and photographed in similar natural conditions, that is, where there is a hot desert, rocks, no vegetation, clouds and shadows, and thus you have the necessary experience and can judge objectively. Isn't that right? -- Екатерина Борисова (talk) 23:37, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
Comment I think this terrain is exactly made for C-PL, like deserts, steppe etc. But some could try once to make more clearly jedgement. Mile (talk) 16:56, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
Support For me, Photography is much more than a way of documenting reality. It is also a way of interpreting beauty and showing it to others, that is, a form of art. The sky may have been artificially darkened. So what? -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 17:02, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

Info Alligator pipefish (Syngnathoides biaculeatus), Nosy Be, Madagascar. Note: there is no FP on Commons of the genus Syngnathoides and only one of the whole family Syngnathida (a seahorse). It is found in shallow water in the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific, its range extending from East Africa to northern Australia. This fish lives in habitats of seagrass and seaweed, and hides by positioning itself vertically with its head down amidst the similar-coloured fronds of vegetation. The elongated, well-camouflaged body can reach 29 centimetres (11 in) in length. It feeds by sucking up its prey. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 18:22, 20 August 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Technically well-executed and sharp, but the composition is somewhat cluttered by the numerous power lines and infrastructure in the lower half. The hazy mountain background also lacks sufficient definition, which reduces the overall visual impact. Neutral While the image is well-exposed and documents the event effectively, the composition feels too busy to me. The large crowd dominates the frame, with many overlapping and distracting elements, and I don’t find the overall image sufficiently striking or exceptional for FP --Olfa Yakoubi -ألفة يعقوبي (talk) 01:11, 21 August 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Overprocessed, colours washed out, below the bar of the images in the FP gallery. For a perched bird, a slower shutter and lower ISO would give a better image. --Tagooty (talk) 03:35, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
- The bird was not sitting idle rather moving a lot, therefore I used fast shutter, could have used 1250 instead though. But what you see is not over processed that I assure you as I am not fond of doing that. I am not asking you to change your opinion for that, Thank you. Tisha Mukherjee (talk) 09:25, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
- The shot is taken when the bird is still, so 1/500 would work, with ISO 2500. Have you applied sharpening or NR, etc.? Tagooty (talk) 04:28, 23 August 2026 (UTC)
- 1/500 would only work with 800mm lens on a tripod. 1/1250 would have been a good choice as Tisha suggests. Charlesjsharp (talk) 09:56, 23 August 2026 (UTC)

Question Does anyone know if the reports of animal cruelty in these races are fair? Charlesjsharp (talk) 13:42, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- I believe so. The Indian government has banned the use of bulls, buffaloes, or any cattle in bullfighting competitions at the federal level because of cruelty to animals. Nevertheless, some states have exceptions since they consider these competitions as 'cultural heritage.' Similar to Spain, there is a strong movement, especially among the younger generation, that wants a complete ban on these races. IamMM (talk) 15:04, 16 August 2026 (UTC)

Support Well, after it became FP on the English Wikipedia, and the image proves the tolerance of Iran in terms of religion (there are 2 cathedrals in the capital, being this one the biggest one) I also believe that this is a special subject with good quality. Oppose Sorry but I can't see anything notable in this image. We don't need a FP to demonstrate the alleged religious tolerance in Iran. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 10:09, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Oppose It fails to wow me. The composition is technically clean, but the facade is not amazing to me, the prohibition sign and the branches/shadows on the left spoil the view. Also, the text looks deformed after the denoising (compare with oldest file version). This user contributed many striking, fascinating photographs, but I would not say this image belongs to the collection --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 13:41, 18 August 2026 (UTC)

Comment I would prefer the image without the labels on the mountains. The labels/arrows should all be a consistent format/layout. Charlesjsharp (talk) 12:22, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- I gave this quite a bit of thought beforehand: same font, two colors (one for labels with sky in background brighter for darker background e.g. the grass covered peaks inside the landscape. One larger label for the Zugspitze - highest mountain of Germany. I made a lot of effort to realize the labels in a typographically pleasant way. For those who like an unedited version I linked the version without label and non-retouched mast in the image descrption. Tuxyso (talk) 13:11, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Support I prefer it with the labels, it feels more educational and useful. There is a version without labels, if anyone would like to nominate that as an alternative. LetmeEditit (talk) 13:03, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Support --Maryliflower (talk) 13:58, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Oppose See Commons:Watermarks and Commons:Image annotations. Burned-in text is not the standard. Additional meta-data outside the image is the standard and improves our ability to use media across all Wikipedia projects. When labels are rendered directly into the pixels, they are not programmatically readable by assistive technologies (screen readers), and do not adapt to users needing high-contrast assistance. -- E bailey (talk) 16:27, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for raising this, but I think neither of the two linked pages actually supports the oppose. Commons:Watermarks explicitly defines watermarks as content that is not part of the creative work itself and serves to assert authorship/copyright. Peak labels are informational content and part of the work, comparable to labels on a map. Besides, that page is a proposed guideline, not policy. Commons:Image annotations, in turn, explicitly lists "identification of places/objects/locations in panoramic photographs" as a desirable type of information. It governs the annotation tool, it does not prohibit rendered labels.
- On the practical side: image notes simply do not work for a 38,000 px panorama. They are only visible on the scaled-down file page preview, not in the Media Viewer, not in ZoomViewer, not in article thumbnails, not in downloaded copies. Precisely at full resolution, where peak identification matters, notes are invisible. So there is, realistically, no alternative way to offer a labeled high-resolution panorama on Commons — the only "alternative" would be not to create such panoramas at all, which would be a loss, considering the substantial work that goes into them.
- Regarding accessibility: the file has a detailed bilingual description naming all major peaks, which is fully machine-readable (including structured data). That, not pixels or image notes (which screen readers cannot read either), is what assistive technology relies on. Current screen readers additionally perform OCR on images: VoiceOver includes built-in Text Recognition (iOS 14+), and JAWS offers Convenient OCR and Picture Smart AI. And for anyone preferring an unlabeled version for reuse, translation, or high-contrast adaptation it is linked under "other versions" at full resolution. Nothing is lost; the labeled version simply adds value, the same way a labeled map does. Tuxyso (talk) 17:41, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- I would support the version without labels. It has broader use and value. E bailey (talk) 18:33, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Support -- In my opinion, the two versions work best together, just like twins. Je-str (talk) 21:01, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Support The labels add genuine encyclopedic value by identifying the peaks directly in the panorama. They are informational content, not a watermark. The digital modifications, including the added labels and removal of the radio mast, are fully documented in the retouching template, with the original version linked. The unlabelled full-resolution version is also available, so both versions complement each other very well. -- Radomianin (talk) 09:15, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Weak oppose IMHO there is a reasonable middle ground here. As mentioned above, the burned-in text detracts from an otherwise wonderful panorama and limits its usefulness by turning it into a specifically encyclopedic illustration. The labels are useful information, but that information does not necessarily need to be part of the pixels themselves. Commons already provides ways to associate information with particular parts of an image, annotations and, more usefully, Structured Data with depicts (P180) and relative position within image (P2677). That would allow the individual peaks to be identified in a machine-readable and multilingual way while keeping the original panorama clean and reusable. I would prefer the unlabelled panorama as the featured version, and keeping the labelled file as a useful derivative. The existing unlabelled version could also be added here as an Alternative, allowing voters to choose between the two. I also don't think Commons:Watermarks is relevant in this case because these are informational labels rather than authorship or copyright markings. --Wilfredor (talk) 13:40, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review! Could you show me an example of how you'd depict the individual peaks? Maybe we could even combine both ideas — Wikidata plus labels? Tuxyso (talk) 21:53, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, yes, I think combining both approaches could actually be a good solution. What I had in mind was adding a depicts (P180) statement for each identifiable peak in the file's Structured Data, with relative position within image (P2677) as a qualifier indicating its position. There is already a Commons example using this approach for multiple landmarks File:Werner Haberkorn - Centro da cidade.jpg, where individual buildings are identified with P180 and P2677. This would not visually replace your labels, of course, at present the structured positions are not rendered as labels over the image, so I can see the value of keeping the labelled derivative as well. The advantage is that the peak identities would additionally become machine-readable and multilingual, while the unlabelled panorama is available for unrestricted reuse Wilfredor (talk) 21:53, 18 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the hint to mark peaks in the structured data (personally I currently have 0,1% knowhow about Wikidata). Currently this approach is imho for me only of theoretical nature because the marks are not translated into visuals marks directly on the photo. Probably a combination of both could be interesting for future panoramas. Direct labeling plus structured data in ONE photo. What do you think? Another question: Is there a way to automate the generation of such structured data? If it works only 100% manually the benefit for adding this seems too low. The best case would be: An automatic labeling tool which generates the strucured data and a rendering in the software which generates labels based on the information. Done Thanks, User:Qwaabza for spotting this! You were right, I have overseen it. What bugs me even more: This is a long-standing Photoshop Line Tool issue, documented in Adobe's own community since 2021. Increasing the arrowhead width from 3 px to 5 px fixes it; I have corrected all arrows accordingly. Please take another look (could take some time until the Wikimedia proxy is updated). Closing nominations manually
The following description explains how to close nominations manually. Normally this is not necessary, as FPCBot takes care of counting the votes, closing and archiving the nominations. When the Bot has counted the votes, a user needs to check and approve the result; everything else is done by the Bot. Therefore, the following instructions are normally only needed for delist-and-replace nominations that the Bot cannot (yet) process, and in case the Bot malfunctions. The closing can be done by any experienced user. If you need help, just ask on the FPC talk page.
Closing a featured picture nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the nomination, then [edit].
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):

(You can leave thegalleryparameter blank if the image was not featured. If the nomination contains alternatives, you must add thealternative=xxxparameter with the name of the selected image between thegalleryand thesigparameter. See FPC-results-reviewed for examples and more explanations.) - Edit the title of the nomination and add
featuredornot featuredafter the link – for example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Add the picture to the appropriate featured picture gallery page and section. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images on Commons:Featured pictures, list to find the gallery page, and search for the correct section. (An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.)
- Add the template

com-nomparameter. For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted in the nominationCommons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, useYou also need thecom-nomparameter if the image gets renamed. - If the image is already featured on another Wikipedia, just add

FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the nominator. For set nominations, use:== Set Promoted to FP ==, using the names of the set files instead of the XXXXXX and the title of the set instead of YYYYY.

FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the creator, if the author is a different Commons user than nominator and uploader.
- Add candidate archive categories to the nomination so that people can easily find and evaluate past nominations (this applies also to unsuccessful, FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations). It’s best practice to wrap all these categories in a
<noinclude>...</noinclude>section because they apply only to the nomination itself, not to the log page etc. which transclude it. You need three or four categories:- A category for the month and year, like Category:August 2026 featured picture candidates for the current month.
- A category for the type and result of the nomination, like Category:2026 successful candidates for featured picture status; replace “successful” by “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn”, depending on the final result of the nomination (see the supercategory for common values).
- A category for the subject of the nomination, like Category:2026 featured picture candidates of plants. Replace “plants” by one of the possible subject keywords like “animals”, “architecture”, etc.; see the base category for all common keywords. Basically the subject keywords correspond to the first part of the gallery link.
- If the nomination is a set nomination, add Category:2026 featured picture set nominations.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations), you have to move the transclusion (the and the text within those) of the nomination to the current log page.
- To find the current log page, visit the first page of the log for this month. If the header of that page contains a link with the text “Next part of this month”, the log for this month has been split into several parts because it contains too many entries. Click on the “Next part …” link and repeat this until you reach a page where the header does not offer a “Next part …” link; that’s the last and current log page.
- Now open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you are closing. It will be of the form:
or:. - Copy that line to the bottom of the current log page and save that page. Then remove the same line from the candidate list and save that page.
Closing a delisting nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Ensifera ensifera (22271195865).jpg) - Edit the title of the delisting nomination and add
delistedornot delistedafter the image title; for example:=== :File:XXXXX.jpg ===
becomes=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Add candidate archive categories to the nomination; this works the same way as described above for featured picture nominations. The only difference is that the category for type and status must be of the form Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting from featured picture status, or Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting and replacing featured pictures if this is a delist-and-replace nomination. Substitute “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn” for “successful”, depending on the final result of the nomination.
- Move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
featured=1tofeatured=2(do not remove the Assessments template; do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes). If the image description page uses the old Featured picture template, replace it with. - Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris); but not from categories about featured pictures on specific Wikipedia editions, like Category:Featured pictures on Wikipedia, English.
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" (Q63348049) from the picture's Structured data.
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in the chronological archive of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1–6) with (1–6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture must not be removed from the chronological archives.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the section above. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Archiving a withdrawn nomination
If a nomination has been withdrawn by the nominator by using Withdraw or is cancelled with FPX or FPD, wait 24 hours after the nomination was last edited. If there has been no objection to the cancellation within this time, the nomination can simply be archived. Just add candidate archive categories to the nomination itself, then move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
